Building the stress bracelet: what I've learned so far

The idea behind the bracelet is simple: your body often reacts to stress before you consciously register it. If a small wrist device can notice that shift, it can nudge you toward a reset while the reset is still cheap.

The prototype uses an optical sensor with green LEDs and a photodiode to read pulse signals at the wrist, a microcontroller to process them, and a small haptic actuator to vibrate when the signal pattern rises.

The hardest part hasn't been electronics. It's been deciding what the device should say. An exact number invites you to argue with it. A gentle nudge โ€” a vibration and a color shift โ€” is easier to act on and much harder to misread as a diagnosis.

This is a student prototype, not a medical device, and it doesn't diagnose anything. The next revisions are about comfort, battery life, and making the enclosure something a teenager would actually wear at school.
